I have a boyfriend who is obsessed with tapas and I can’t blame him. It’s the perfect appetizer for any occasion. So, of course, like the friend I am, I just had to share with you a Spanish Appetizer Platter recipe.
It’s such an easy appetizer to make. Some of the items you just throw on your serving platter and others take literally 5 minutes to make. That’s like the definition of the perfect appetizer for entertaining at home.
How to Make Spanish Tapas at Home
So normally you would eat tapas in a restaurant. Not many people will actually make a spanish tapas platter at home, which is such a pity because it’s so easy to make. The key to making an amazing tapas platter is incorporating some traditional Spanish ingredients/food items to it. My Spanish tapas platter includes:
- Gambas al Ajillio (Spanish Garlic Shrimps)
- Spanish Chorizo
- Fried Calamari
Some other foods you can add to your platter are:
How to Serve It
Contrary to a cheeseboard or other platters, I recommend serving this platter in individual bowls. That’s also how most of the time tapas gets served in Spain. That is exactly what I did as well with my Spanish tapas platter, as you can see in my picture. I actually found these 2 pinch bowls design that I absolutely love. There are these ones from Chrissy Teigen’s collection (her collection is amazing) and then there are also these colorful Spanish-inspired bowls.
Next, a Spanish tapas platter is always best with some white wine (bonus if it’s a Spanish brand). Since we have some seafood in the platter, cheese, and more lighter taste food, I recommend sticking to a white wine like a Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, or Moscato (for a sweeter taste). Red wine may overpower the taste, but if you really like something red—or maybe a guest wants red—then you do you.
Ideas for the Main Dish

Heat a pan on medium heat and add the sunflower oil. When the oil is hot, fry the calamari rings in batches on both sides. Approx. 2 minutes each side. Add it to your bowl.
Serve your platter with love!
