This Passion Fruit Lemonade recipe is one of the most popular recipes on the site. It’s a great tropical twist to the traditional lemonade recipe.
What is Passion Fruit?
If you’ve never bought or used passion fruit it’s a fruit commonly found in Latin America and the Caribbean. The outside is semi-hard with a juicy pulp on the inside. The taste is sweet yet a bit sour. It’s a great ingredient for desserts or drinks like this passion fruit mocktail.
Where to Buy
For this recipe, you’ll need the juice from the passion fruit. While you can get passion fruit juice from a carton at the supermarket, it’s very easy to juice fresh passion fruit. You can find fresh passion fruit at your local market when in season or even in a supermarket. If not, check your nearest international or Latin American grocery store.
How to Choose the Best Passion Fruit
I recommend juicing fresh passion fruit juice because it won’t have any added sugar, giving you more control of the recipe. When buying passion fruit, you want to buy the ugly, soft, and bruised ones. When passion fruit is crinkled and soft when squeezed, that means that they are riper. You also want to choose the ones that are heavier because those have the most amount of juice.
How to Get Fresh Juice
To juice a passion fruit, scoop out the pulp with a spoon and scrape it through a sieve to separate the seeds and flesh from the juice. By running the pulp through the sieve you’ll be left with only the juice.
Add the juice to the jar and store it in the fridge. You can use it to make other passion fruit and lemonade drinks, cocktails, or non-alcoholic passion fruit drinks.
How to Make Passion Fruit Lemonade Recipe
You can’t go wrong with making this recipe due to its simplicity. What I do recommend is adding the simple syrup gradually, while tasting it at the same time. Everyone had a different sweetness threshold and you want to make this lemonade according to your taste.
Recipe Variations
This Passion Fruit Lemonade recipe is simple and doesn’t include many ingredients. However, one way to adapt this recipe is to include herbs in the drinks and not just as a garnish. Mix the drink with mint or rosemary, for example, to add a nice aroma and flavor kick to the drink.
