Gourmet Hot Dog with Bacon Corn Relish and Buffalo Style Cheese Sauce
garnished with pickles and scallions
Gourmet hot dogs remind me of Amsterdam. In between the narrow streets of Amsterdam, that are surrounded by the iconic grachten (canals), lies a popular street food market called Foodhallen. If your looking for tasty and cool dishes then the Foodhallen is the place to go. Their food is creative and goes beyond your expectations. One of the thing that I tasted when I visited the place was the gourmet hot dog. A gourmet hot dog is basically a fancy word for a normal hotdog that has more than the standard ingredients.
The funny thing is that it wasn’t my first time tasting a gourmet hot dog. In fact, my first gourmet hot dog was made by my dad when I was a little girl. Each time he served me and my cousin his iconic hot dog was a treat for us. His secret was..? Add every leftover or canned food you can find in the hot dog and serve it with pride. He would add onions, corn, pickled beetroot or whatever was at hand. My cousin and I would feast on those hot dogs and who knew that 15 years later these same hot dogs would become all the rage.
I got the idea to make this particular hot dog from a picture I saw on Pinterest. The recipe is based on a recipe from Cooking and Beer, but with my own little twist. I made the cheese sauce a buffalo style cheese sauce instead of chipotle and also added garlic to spice up the sauce. I’m one of those weird people who loves garlic and onion.
Impress everyone with this delicious gourmet hot dog.

- 200 gr corn canned

Add the butter in a pan and let it melt. Add the flour and whisk everything together till smooth. Add the milk and keep whisking until all ingredients are incorporated. Add the cheese in parts and keep whisking until the cheese is melted. At last, add the chipotle and set aside.
In a heated skillet add the bacon and bake for about 3 minutes. Add the onions and the corn and bake for 2 more minutes. Set aside
In a heated grill pan add the hot dogs and grill them for about 10 minutes on medium heat. Turn the hot dogs frequently to get the grill marks on them.
Slice the hot dog buns open. Place the hot dogs first, then the cheese sauce and garnish with pickles and scallions.
