What is Limonada de Coco
This thirst-quenching coconut limeade recipe is a traditional Colombian drink that is perfect for the hot summer months. This drink is made primarily from coconut cream combined with fresh lime juice.
It can also easily turn into a delicious cocktail when you add a shot of dark or light rum. Add fresh mints for an aromatic smell and be impressed by your own creation.
How to Make Limonada de Coco
There isn’t anything truly complicated to make this Limonada de Coco recipe. However, there are a few things you have to keep in mind.
Coconut cream or coconut milk, which should you use? Coconut cream is thick and richer but isn’t as sweet as coconut milk. It also has a higher concentration of fat which makes it gloppy. So, if you decide to swap coconut cream for coconut milk, you’ll impact both the taste and consistency of the drink.
Different ice dilutes different. For this type of cocktails, crushed ice is the way to go. Normally, cold cocktails like Limonada de Coco need to achieve a certain amount of dilution. So, the smaller the ice cube, the better.
Limonada de Coco is on itself a kid-friendly drink, but you can take it up a notch for the adults by adding rum. The taste will be similar to a piña colada but without the piña. Still, freshness and that tropical hint remain untouched.
In your blender, pour the coconut cream, lime juice, and sugar. Then add the ice.
Turn the blender on to mix everything and crush all the chunks of ice. Give a little taste to see if you want to add more sugar. This is where you also add the rum if you want to. Do a quick blend or use the pulse option to help achieve the desired consistency. You’re looking for a slushie-kind-of texture.
Then prepare your garnish. In this case, we will use mint leaves. Place them delicately on top of your drink. Other optional garnish options are Dried coconut, lemon slices, or lemon zest.
